Recruitment
Veterinary Virologist/Clinical Pathologist
The recruitment of a senior veterinary surgeon is due to the partial retirement of Biobest's founder Dr David Snodgrass. The job description is as follows:
The veterinary role
We need a Clinical Director who can be responsible for the delivery of the professional services of Biobest. This consists of test interpretation on written reports and on telephone queries; of veterinary input into cattle health schemes Herdcare and HI Health; and of signing certificates when needed. We have two other vets who effectively job-share to one full-time post between them, and we seek a more senior individual to work with these colleagues. The tests themselves now cover a wide range of species which presents a stiff professional challenging at maintaining the necessary breadth of knowledge. Interpretation also requires an understanding of the basics of the assay procedures used, and the extent of their validation.
The business development role
Business Development is a team effort at Biobest which is coordinated by our Business Development Manager. It is essential that the senior vet is comfortable meeting customers whether farmers, vet practitioners, or representatives of business large and small including the major pharmaceutical companies. We encourage the building of strong personal relationships and it is likely that the appointee will develop his own customers who relate primarily to him.
Management
The appointee will be a senior member of the management team, and be expected to contribute to decision-making in both routine management and business growth plans.
Cattle health schemes
The appointee will be expected to play a prominent role in CHeCS and maintaining the integrity of health schemes.
Technical
The appointee will be expected to liaise with scientific colleagues in the development and validation of improved and novel assays.
We have a track record of consistent organic expansion at about 15% annually. As part of the new Integrin group we have a Board who are committed to more rapid expansion and have the means to raise capital as necessary. The appointee can expect to be the senior veterinary employee across the group if other veterinary businesses are acquired. Senior employees can expect competitive salaries. The Chief Executive is Dr Douglas McKenzie who will continue to be primarily based in Oban once the current integration is completed.
