Cattle Health Scheme Manager
David Kay BSc (Hons) MSc
David graduated from The University of Edinburgh with an honours degree in Agricultural Science (Animal Science) in 1999. From a beef
and dairy farming background he retains involvement with the family units. Before joining Biobest as the full-time Cattle Health Scheme Manager
in September 2006 he spent several years working in agricultural consultancy and rural development projects.
Veterinary Staff
Dr David Snodgrass BVM&S, PhD, DSc, FRCPath, MRCVS (Consultant)
David founded Biobest in 1995 following more than 30 years experience of virology diagnosis and research principally relating to cattle. This included the lead role in developing the Rotavec vaccine which has become a mainstay of calf scour control. Biobest took over the old MAFF Cattle Health Scheme in 1997 which has grown into Herdcare, and since then David has had an active role in cattle health scheme management with both Herdcare and HI Health.
Dr Paul Burr BVM&S, PhD, BSc (Vet Sci) Hons, MRCVS (Consultant)Paul has 5 years experience of farm practice, followed by 10 years of diagnosis and research in infectious diseases. He is experienced in advising both vets and farmers on health scheme operation. Paul has recently presented papers to the British Cattle Veterinary Association meeting on cattle health schemes and Johne's diagnosis. He is also a member of the BVD eradication initiative technical group.
Kate Haig BVMS, MRCVS (Veterinary Adviser)Kate graduated form the University of Glasgow veterinary school in 1980. Her experience within the veterinary industry includes research, general practice and the State Veterinary Service. She has also worked as a freelance copy-editor and proofreader specialising in scientific, medical and veterinary textbooks. She joined Biobest in 2005.
Dr Susan Duthie BVMS PhD CertVR MRCVS (Veterinary Manager)Susan graduated from the University of Glasgow Vet School in 1989 and went straight into mixed practice. Five years later, she returned to Glasgow to complete a PhD encompassing veterinary virology. After completing a related post-doctoral study, she joined Biobest in 2003 as a Veterinary Virologist. Since then she has been closely involved with the Herdcare Cattle Health Scheme, providing reports and advice for Herdcare members.
Business Development
Ian MacDougall BSc (Hons) MScIan joined Biobest in 2006 and is responsible for sales and marketing development of the company and its services including cattle health projects. Ian has an agricultural science degree and a livestock farming background in both commercial and pedigree beef sectors.
Additional Scientific Staff include: Wendy Barr, Zoë Ockwell, Chris Smeaton, Graeme Dallas, Sarah MacCallum, Russell Mabbs , Liz McGinley, Colin Wood, Barbara Stochmal and Eleanor Laming.
